Scale and Tuning CD Practice Instructions

Congratulations, you have taken a bold step in improving your stringed instrument playing skills. This CD tuning resource comes direct to you with a 30-hour practice money back guarantee. Now that you are ready to begin:

1.

Tune your open strings using the tuning notes on tracks 1-5.

2.

Listen to the scale several times.

3.

Sing, hum, or sing the note names, staying on pitch with the recording.

4.

Sing and listen to the increasing space/interval that each note rises above the scale tuning note (first note of the scale is called the tonic).

5.

Develop sensitivity to the intervals that are dissonant 2nds to 7ths and to the intervals that are consonant 3rds and 6ths. Notice that the remaining intervals, 4ths and 5ths are beatless when they are perfectly in tune.

Use the long, tonic tuning note to improve your scale or use it for practicing 2 or 3 octave scales.

Notice how even the note is. Maintain bow speed, contact point, and arm weight to match the recording.

Use any of the tuning tracks to practice your ensemble and solo pieces. Your teacher will identify sections in your music as being based on G, D, or another note. Tune all of the notes in a section to the selected tuning note.
